From a young age, Simon developed a passion and fascination for the natural world. He devoted much of his time to observing and learning about the wildlife close to his family’s home in rural Kent.

His interested in photography began some years later while studying Biophysics at Aberdeen University; completely self-taught, he talked his way into a job as the photographer for the university's weekly newspaper and has been shooting pictures ever since. During the past forty years he has accrued a wealth of experience in both film and digital photography. His pictures have been published in newspapers, books and magazines, including among the UK photographic press Practical Photography, Digital SLR Photography, Professional Photographer and Nikon Pro; he is also the Technical Editor of Nikon Owner magazine.

Simon is not only a photographer, but also the author of over twenty-five books on the Nikon camera system. An experienced tutor who presents a wide range of photography seminars and workshops, he also leads landscape, travel, and wildlife photography tours regularly in the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Among the many awards Simon has received for his photography he was named as The Overall Winner - Mammals category, in the Natural History Museum / Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2016 competition.
